PROVIDENCE, RI. Senator Pichardo, who retired from the United States Air Force on June 28, was honored with aCertificate of Appreciation from the Commander in Chief, Barack Obama. The certificate reads, “I extend to you my personal thanks and the sincere appreciation of a grateful nation for your contribution of honorable service to our country. You have helped maintain the security of the nation during a critical time in its history with a devotion to duty and a spirit of sacrifice in keeping with the proud traditions of military service.”

Pichardo was also awarded the prestigious Rhode Island Star Medal by Governor Carcieri and Adjutant General Robert T. Bray.

The message from Adjutant General Bray reads, “Sergeant Pichardo distinguished himself as an active proponent for diversity in the Rhode Island National Guard… The remarkable accomplishments of Sergeant Pichardo illustrate a distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself, the Rhode Island Air National Guard and the State of Rhode Island.”

He also received the Meritorious Service Medal from Commander in Chief Barack Obama and Colonel Donald M. Lagor, Director of Staff for the Rhode Island Air National Guard.

On June 26, Senator Pichardo was honored by his colleagues with a Senate resolution congratulating him on his retirement and his “devoted and dedicated service to our nation and the citizens of Rhode Island.”

Pichardo enlisted in the Rhode Island Air National Guard in 1988 and was assigned to the 143rd Security Forces Squadron.

In 1994, he was transferred to the 143rd Communications Flight Squadron and was responsible for creating and editing multimedia for training purposes. In 2004, he became an Equal Opportunity Advisor.
